to master all the topics to pass the GED. Students who are chronically absent in 9th grade have 24% to 45% LOWER graduation rates than students with good attendance.
This estimate ONLY includes the direct costs of chronic absenteeism for school districts. It does NOT include the estimated lifetime lost wages for each drop-out of $260,000. It does NOT include additional lost tax revenues of $139,100 per drop out. It does NOT include additional public health expenditures of $40,500 per drop out. It does NOT include the $31,286 annual cost for each inmate as drops outs are 8 times more likely to end up in prison.
